Do this on Windows 10. No need to miss MacOs Preview.

When you switch to Windows from MacOs suddenly you start realising that the two universes are different. The habits of keystrokes on MacOs no longer work on Windows. Even the keyboards do not settle and you have to manage. Mistakes do happen too and you sometimes realise that data is lost or process is killed or something unexpected happened.

This article solves one of the issues — the Quick Preview feature of MacOs.

So, when you see an image file or a PDF or a DOC file in Windows Explorer, without opening it, you just want to view the contents — that’s it. Not loading the file fully, nor launching the application. Just a quick peek. And with the option to scroll. Life becomes easy. No wait needed to load the main application to show the preview or the file contents.

Fortunately, the solution is free and easy. Not even the Fremium model where you either have to bear unwanted ads or have to pay for a full feature application.

You just need to find this Windows 10 App:

Launch Microsoft Store in your PC from Start Menu and search for QuickLook app (as the image above suggests). It is a productivity app and extremely useful.

You can also open it via a browser. Click here and Microsoft website will be opened which will seek your permission to launch QuickLook via Microsoft Store App on your PC. Allow it.

Unique Source of Knowledge

It will be installed only by the Microsoft Store, so don’t be afraid of any malware or any associated risk. The application is clean and reliable.

When loaded in Microsoft Store, click on the Get button above and proceed. If you want to log in first (in case not logged in to Microsoft Store) then it is your choice. But clicking the grey button to skip the login flow and just wait for a second or two — the application will be shown as being installed. It is nearly 55MB so nut much.

Based on your PC configurations and the internet speed it might take some time but ideally should not take more than 3 minutes.

Screen after the application is installed

Once the installation is finished successfully, you will see a Launch button. Also, a confirmation is shown — ‘This product is installed.

Launch it.

Now the valuable MacOs feature is present in your Windows 10 PC too.

Feeling amazed? Say YES!

Preview a folder or any application
Preview a plain text file
Previewing a PDF file having multiple pages. Note the tiles on the left.

Note: There is still a big difference that is worth mentioning. The preview works same as in MacOs — just press the SPACE BAR on the keyboard, but, if there are multiple pages in the file (e.g. a PDF file), then the preview of pages will be on the left side of the quick preview. On MacOs it is on the right side of the file/page view.

But, truly speaking, does it matter a lot? For me — Nah!

Enjoy.
